Wickenburg Information
Wickenburg is 50 miles Northwest of Phoenix at an elevation of 2,100 feet. (Just 32 miles NW of Sun City West) Nestled in the foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains, and along the banks of the Hassayampa River. Wickenburg boasts a rich western heritage which is still evident today.
Community FacilitiesThe Town of Wickenburg offers a wide range of community and cultural facilities. There is a community center, five art galleries, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, a library, a swimming pool, two golf courses, a nature preserve, several tennis courts, a rodeo arena, and three parks. The town also boasts a widely acclaimed Performing Arts Center. It was recently voted as ‘Best’ of Maricopa County.
GovernmentThe Town of Wickenburg is governed by a mayor, six council members, and a town manager. It is served by the Department of Public Safety, Maricopa County Sheriff Office, and a local police department. The town fire department works with the volunteer fire department and has a total of 27 firefighters on call.
EducationThere is one public elementary school, one middle school, one brand new high school, and two private schools in Wickenburg. Arizona State University West, Glendale Community College, and Estrella Community College are less than one hour away.
MedicalWickenburg's hospital offers 15 acute-care services, full out-patient services, 24 hour emergency services, visiting specialist, cardiopulmonary services, laboratory services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and x ray/medical available. Also available are 2 ambulance services, EMT's and paramedics. Two helicopter ambulances are readily available. Other medical centers in town include Del E. Webb Fitness Center, Sun Health Clinic, The Meadows for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, Remuda Ranch and Rosewood for eating disorder treatment. There are a number of local doctors and dentists, medical supply companies and pharmacies.
Banking and FinanceWickenburg has five financial institutions -- Wells Fargo, Meridian Bank, Bank of America, Chase Bank, and Stockman's Bank. The town also had a number of financial advisors to handle investments and retirement funding.
CommunicationIn addition to the communication resources from the rest of the state, Wickenburg has a weekly newspaper, The Wickenburg Sun, a local AM/FM radio station, cable television, and six television channels from Phoenix. You also have the choice of satellite television and high speed internet access.
AirportThe Wickenburg Municipal Airport has a paved and lighted 5,050 foot runway, paved parking, hangars, fuel (regular and jet), and repair service. Also available are a precision approach path indicator and UNICOM communications.
WeatherWickenburg's weather is typical of the desert southwest, but tends to be cooler than nearby Phoenix, primarily because of its slightly higher altitude.
